Cotton Electric 70th Annual Meeting 10/07/2008
Cotton Electric members joined together for the seventieth time at the cooperative's Annual Meeting held Oct. 2 at the Great Plains Coliseum in Lawton. A great barbecue meal served by Catering by Finley, fellowship and prizes were all part of the evening event.
The Walters High School Honor Choir opened the meeting with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and board president Dewayne High called the meeting to order. Although over 550 members registered for the meeting, a quorum of 732 was not present and official business could not be conducted. However, President High and Secretary-Treasurer Tim McCary both updated the membership on the cooperative’s growth and financial well-being.
After the board’s presentations, Gary Roulet, chief executive officer of Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), then delivered a message to the audience regarding the current status of the electric industry and the steps WFEC is making to secure the generation and transmission cooperative. Then, Warren Langford, chief executive officer of Cotton Electric Cooperative, addressed the audience about progress made in 2007 and Cotton Electric’s plans for the future.
A prize drawing was then conducted. The grand prize, a $500 credit on the member’s electric bill, was won by Lynn Bennett of Indiahoma. Two Nintendo DS game systems and twenty $5 bills were awarded to children attending the event.
