Energy Camp

Submissions for Energy Camp are closed. Thank you to all who submitted. Winners will be notified on April 22, 2022.

Youth Power Energy Camp is designed to help eighth-grade students develop leadership skills, have summertime fun, and at the same time learn about one of rural America’s most important industries – rural electrification. This great summer opportunity is available for eighth-graders.

Students selected to participate in the Electric Cooperatives of Oklahoma Youth Power Energy Camp will spend a week in enjoying the pleasures of Canyon Camp, near Hinton, OK – from volleyball tournaments to swimming to hiking. And best of all, students will start friendships that will last a lifetime!

Students experience first-hand the exciting world of rural electricity – watch safety demonstrations, climb a pole, hear from co-op leaders. Plus, they will have the opportunity to sharpen leadership skills by working with new-found friends from every corner of the state to set up and run their own cooperative business.

This contest requires a short paragraph about why the entrant would like to attend the 2022 Youth Power Energy Camp from May 31 through June 3 at Canyon Camp in Red Rock Canyon, southeast of Hinton.

Youth Tour/Essay Contest

Submissions for YouthTour/Essay Contest are closed. Thank you to all who submitted essays.

Applications for Youth Tour may be found on the Scholarship Contest page. Application deadline is January 18, 2022.

The Oklahoma Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour is an annual, week long, all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. that is open to select high school juniors who attend schools served by electric cooperatives.

Cotton Electric and other Oklahoma electric cooperatives participate in the Washington Youth Tour. Nationwide, electric co-ops from 41 states participate. In all, more than 1,300 young people from across the nation gather in Washington, D.C. each year for this event.

Cotton Electric sends students to Washington for a number of reasons including:

  • rewarding students for academic achievement and community leadership

  • educating students about the role of electric co-ops in the national economy

  • fostering students' appreciation for the democratic form of government

  • exposing students to the sights and sounds of our nation's heritage

  • building students' leadership skills so that they may make a difference in their communities.

The Washington Youth Tour is sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives and 25 of Oklahoma's 28 electric distribution cooperatives.
