What does it mean to be part of a cooperative?
Unlike an investor-owned utility, Cotton Electric is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative. That means the people we serve aren't customers—they're our members and owners. We work every day to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to the homes, farms, and businesses in our communities. To do that, we purchase wholesale electricity from Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, then deliver it to our members through the local power lines we own and maintain.
At Cotton Electric, community isn't just where we provide electricity—it's where we live, work, and raise our families. As a member-owned cooperative, we're committed to making our communities stronger through local programs, sponsorships, youth opportunities, volunteer efforts, and Operation Round Up grants. Our employees and board members are your neighbors, giving us a unique connection to the people we serve and the communities we call home.
Membership has its benefits. Because Cotton Electric is member-owned, you have a say in how your cooperative operates by attending district and annual meetings and electing the board members who represent your community. Membership also includes valuable programs like capital credits, free home energy audits, energy efficiency rebates, co-op connections, and other tools to help you make the most of your electric service.
As a member, you have a voice in your cooperative, and we want to hear from you. We also want to make it easy for you to stay informed and take control of your account. SmartHub gives you 24/7 access to your account, while TextPower lets you report an outage by texting OUT to 580-875-3351. Follow us on social media and read The Current, our monthly newsletter, to stay up to date on your cooperative, your community, and the things that matter to you.
